What dies on an AC adapter?

I burnt out an AC adapter (wall wart) and am trying to fix it (just for fun). I have pretty much all the little pieces on the PCB board inside the adapter, so I can replace them if needed. I'm just not sure which ones aren't working! I've tried using my multimeter and they all seem to be connected at least, but i don't know how to "properly" check them. So i figured i'd ask what's usually the first thing to go on an adapter like this? Thanks!

My first guess would be the power cord or plug. Check for continuity from the plug to circuit board or transformer.
